<p>The <strong>Turf Law Journal</strong> is an accredited, open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by the <a href="https://www.ul.ac.za/index.php?Entity=School%20Main%20Menu&school_id=10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">School of Law, University of Limpopo (South Africa)</a>. The purpose of the journal is to give a platform for high-quality research on transformative perspectives about law in South Africa. While the journal is mainly seeking to respond to legal questions in South Africa, comparative perspectives from Africa and beyond are most welcome. The journal further welcomes contributions that take multi- and inter-disciplinary perspectives to law. <p><strong>SUB-THEMES</strong><br />The following sub-themes, among others, shall be covered:<br />a) Human migration and the law in Africa<br />b) Human migration and exploitative cheap labour<br />c) South Africa as a socio-economic destination for migrant labourers in a capitalist economy<br />d) Illegal immigration and state capacity<br />e) Statehood, nationhood and statelessness<br />f) Illegal immigration and illegal settlement on town-planning and spatial development<br />g) Human migration and Africa's socio-economic development<br />h) International law on human migration<br />i) South Africa's law and human migration<br />j) Asylum seeking and refugee status<br />k) The nature and context of an economic migrant<br />l) State capacity, Batho Pele and management of migration<br />m) Human migration, democracy, elections and the people<br />n) The law on illegal immigrants<br />o) Human rights adjudication and public participation on migration issues<br />p) Humanitarian action in the face of man-made political humanitarian crises<br />q) Judging and politics amidst illegal immigration in a transformative society<br />r) Policing and crime prevention strategies in South Africa</p> <p><strong>SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS GUIDELINES</strong><br />a) Abstracts must be no more than 300 words.<br />b) Please ensure that your abstract resonates with the theme or any of the sub-themes of the<br />conference.<br />c) For ease of the selection process, your abstracts must specify the speciality within which it is<br />located.<br />d) No speaker will be permitted to submit more than one abstract. However, the speaker may<br />present a second abstract if it is co-authored.<br />e) Authors are encouraged to develop their papers for consideration for the special issue on<br />immigration law in the Turf Law Journal. Turf Law Journal is a DHET-accredited journal that<br />strictly applies a double-blind peer review process.</p> <p><br /><strong>SUBMISSION DETAILS</strong><br />Abstracts should be sent to turflawconf@ul.ac.za no later than 30 August 2026. <p>The <em>Turf Law Journal</em> is a peer-reviewed journal published by the School of Law of the University of Limpopo. It was established in 2021 to give a platform for high-quality research on transformative perspectives about the law in South Africa. While the journal mainly seeks to respond to legal questions in South Africa, comparative perspectives from Africa and beyond are most welcome. The journal further welcomes contributions that take multi- and inter-disciplinary perspectives to law. In particular, the journal targets high-quality research from emerging scholars and non-conventional perspectives from established researchers.</p> <p>The journal publishes articles, book reviews, case notes and comments. The journal welcomes articles of between 7,000 - 12,000 words, including references. Book reviews, case notes, and comments must be 3,000 - 5,500 words, including references. All contributions to the <em>Turf Law Journal </em>will be subjected to a compulsory double-blind review.</p> <p>The journal is published biannually. The journal welcomes articles all year round.
